Woody Point Lighthouse, July, 2002
The Woody Point Lighthouse is on the south side of Bonne Bay in the community of Woody Point. The lighthouse, established in 1919, is a square wooden structure common on the east coast of Canada. The current structure was erected in 1959.
Access to the lighthouse is easy. It is visible from the road through the community and one can drive to within a few metres of the structure.
The lighthouse is visible from numerous locations including the close approach seen here. We also enjoyed the view during a short walk in town along the waterfront.
I have planned to visit this lighthouse on every trip to Newfoundland during the past ten years, but was never able to until the summer of 2002. My daughter and I made a short trip there on our way back to the airport at the end of our vacation.
